The Greenwood Phoenix was built in the 1960's by Bruno Berticevich, a welder working at the Granby. He fabricated the Phoenix for a Labor Day parade. It was originally installed at City Hall, and later moved to Miner's Park on Highway 3.
According to ghosttownpix.com, a group of open pit miners erected the commemorative phoenix sculpture in the 1970s, marking hopes that someday the city of Phoenix will rise again.
