Municipal Government:
The City of Greenwood's seat of municipal government is located at City Hall, on 202 South Government Street. City Council, presently comprised of Mayor Ed Smith and four members, meet at regularly scheduled City Council meetings, which are open to the public. Bylaws, policies, and information on permits and fees can be found at the municipal website, www.GreenwoodCity.com.
City Hall, one of Greenwood's finest historic structures, was built in 1902. It houses the municipal offices, open on weekdays, with City staff offering friendly assistance.
Designed by architect George Dillon Curtis, City Hall was originally built as a provincial government office and courthouse. The building once housed the gold commissioner's office, the chief of police and the mining recorder, and served as the county and Supreme Court. The City of Greenwood purchased the building from the province in 1953 for its City Hall.
